Changes to the Demerit Point Scheme will take effect from 1 July 2015. Relevant changes include unlicensed and overseas drivers who incur demerit points will face similar consequences to Victorian driver licence/learner permit holders who accumulate demerit points. They will be disqualified from driving in Victoria and from obtaining a Victorian driver licence or learner permit for a period of time.
From 1 July 2015, new laws also give VicRoads the authority to request interstate and overseas drivers to undertake a medical review assessment if there is a concern about their fitness to drive. VicRoads will remove their authority to drive in Victoria on their interstate or overseas driver licence should they refuse or fail to undergo an assessment or not pass the assessment. They will also be disqualified from obtaining a Victorian driver licence or learner permit during this period.
